Date: Saturday, August 29, 2026
Race Start: 8:00 AM
Expected Attendance: Approximately 1,000 runners

Mahalo for your understanding and support as we host the Honolulu Rainbow EKIDEN Relay Race in the Waikiki and Diamond Head area. Temporary traffic modifications will be in effect to ensure the safety of participants and the community.

Road Closure Schedule

Saturday, August 29, 2026
Approximately 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Traffic control personnel and Honolulu Police Department officers will be stationed throughout the course to assist motorists.

Affected Areas

Diamond Head Road

  • Makai side lane closure from Poni Moi Rd. to the 2nd Lookout
  • Traffic will remain open on the mauka side

Poni Moi Road

  • Mauka-bound traffic closed from Kiele Ave. to Diamond Head Rd.
  • Contraflow access available for ewa-bound traffic

Paki Avenue

  • Eastbound lane closure from Noela St. to Diamond Head Rd.

Kalakaua Avenue

  • Mauka-side parking lane closure from the Tennis Courts to Dillingham Fountain
  • Contraflow lane available between Poni Moi Rd. and Dillingham Fountain for ewa-bound traffic

Race Course Overview

Queen Kapiolani Park (Bandstand Area)
→ Kapiolani Park pathways
→ Kalakaua Avenue
→ Diamond Head Road
→ U-turn at the 2nd Lookout
→ Return via Diamond Head Road and Kalakaua Avenue
→ Finish at Queen Kapiolani Park

Advance Notification Signs

Electronic message boards will be posted from August 26–29, 2026 at the following locations:

  1. Paki Avenue (eastbound), east of Monsarrat Avenue
  2. Kalakaua Avenue (eastbound), at the Monsarrat split
  3. Kalakaua Avenue (eastbound), makai of Dillingham Fountain

Signs will provide updated information regarding road closures and anticipated closure times.
